The Patriot Act? Or the section within it called the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System? It's outrageous that shit like that is actually happening, in full consent of the American government. It's sick that some Americans actually support it Complacency leads to subjugation.
Honestly, I've always known that wrongful things happen. Only recently a citizen, I've always known that the U.S. Gov't treats immigrants like dogs. I remember waiting in line for hours outside the INS. I was always lucky that it wasn't raining or snowing. I know there are others who weren't as lucky. The goverment could very easily make the system more efficient and faster, or even just build an awning. But no, they would purposely make the road of the immigrant that much harder. Because they have no voice.
I've always known that we don't have total privacy. A certain amount of infringement is necessary for security. But now people are getting arrested for phone calls and emails... it's just something out of a conspiracy theory novel, right?
The degree to which basic principles of freedom and fair trial - ideals that the American Government were built upon, and swore to protect - are being violated at an alarming rate. I feel betrayed. I have been lied to.
I will make an effort to be more politically informed and active from now on. I have never felt so threatened by the American Government. Everything is not ok. I guess its time to stop being complacent.
